Urgent Support for Burn Recovery Journey

Dear friends and family,

On September 3, 2024, I was in a horrific accident.

I traveled to Indiana by bus to Indianapolis, where my best friend Tonya picked me up to travel to Hartford, where she lives. We were getting ready to spend our birthday week together—my 50th and her 48th. We had VIP tickets to see Luke Bryan on the 7th! We were very excited.

On the first night there, we were getting settled and decided to have a fire. I sat down, realizing my chair was a smidgen too close to the heat. I tried to pull myself out of the gravity chair, which was on a slight hill, and pushed a bit too hard. I only had split seconds to make a decision and fell over the wrought iron railing that was around the fire and had to pull myself out.

Long story short, I burned about 20% of my body, including my back—from my shoulder blades halfway down my buttocks—and my right hand and arm. I have a very long recovery ahead of me.

I was initially brought to Ball Hospital in Indiana and then was airlifted to Eskenazi Hospital burn unit almost immediately, where I began to fight for my life. I just returned home on September 27, 2024.

So far, I've already had 4 surgeries. This will definitely impact my ability to work for a while. Recovery for 3rd and 4th degree burns will take a while.
