We are raising funds on behalf of a Muslim sister and mother of five in our community who is facing an urgent and devastating hardship.
Her husband—the sole and only source of income for their family—was recently taken into ICE custody after attending what was supposed to be a routine, annual check-in related to his refugee/asylum status. He has consistently complied with all requirements in good faith for over a decade and a half. At this time, it is uncertain whether he will be released or deported, and the family is actively working with legal counsel to navigate this situation.
To make matters more critical, he is currently ill while in ICE detention, and the family has very limited information and no clear timeline.
Out of respect for their safety, dignity, and legal circumstances, the family has requested to remain anonymous. We ask that this request be honored.
About the Family
This is a household held together by a mother doing her best under immense pressure.

- Others in high school and middle school
- The husband was the only income earner for the family
- With his sudden detention, the family has no income at all
Every essential expense was previously covered by him, including:
- Rent and utilities
- Food and basic household necessities
- School and education-related costs
- Car insurance and transportation
- Legal and immigration-related expenses
His detention has resulted in an immediate and total loss of income, leaving the family unsure how they will meet their most basic needs in the coming weeks.
How the Funds Will Be Used
Our immediate goal is to help stabilize the family during this period of uncertainty by covering two months of essential living expenses.
Estimated monthly expenses: $5,000
Immediate goal: $10,000 (two months of support)
Funds raised will be used for:
- Rent and utilities
- Food and daily necessities
- School-related and educational expenses
- Transportation and car insurance
- Legal and administrative costs related to his detention and case
If funds exceed the initial goal, they will be used to extend support should the situation continue or legal expenses increase.
A Reminder to Our Community
Supporting families who have suddenly lost their sole provider—especially through circumstances entirely beyond their control—is part of our fard kifayah, our collective obligation as a community.
The Prophet ﷺ reminded us of this spiritual truth:
Abu Huraira (رضي الله عنه) reported:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said,
“Charity does not decrease wealth, no one forgives another, but that Allah increases his honor, and no one humbles himself for the sake of Allah but that Allah raises his status.”
(Sahih Muslim 2588)
Standing with this family is not a loss—it is a means of barakah, honor, and elevation with Allah.
