Hola a todos, les escribo con todo mi corazón. Mi nombre es Alexa y soy una madre soltera de 23 años que enfrenta desafíos como la única cuidadora de mi hija y mi madre.

Hace cuatro meses, mi pareja fue deportada. Mi esposo estaba de camino al trabajo cuando ICE lo arrestó y se lo llevó. Tratamos de sacarlo con un abogado, pero desafortunadamente era demasiado tarde y fue deportado. Ahora debo $2,000 en honorarios del abogado la próxima semana (17 de febrero).

La situación es ahora muy difícil porque estoy sola con mi hija de un año y cuatro meses y mi esposo me dejó muy poco dinero. Tengo que pagar mi alquiler, la guardería de mi hija, alimentos, gastos médicos y más. Simplemente no puedo hacerlo solo con el poco dinero que gano, porque no trabajo suficientes horas y tengo miedo de salir más a menudo. Si me toman, mi hija no tendrá a nadie que la cuide.

La verdad es que la única otra familia que tengo es mi madre, porque mi padre murió cuando yo tenía 10 años, pero mi madre está en Guatemala y muy enferma. Necesito ayudarla con sus gastos médicos y sus medicamentos para la diabetes. Mi mamá tuvo una operación de cadera el año pasado, y todavía estamos pagando esa deuda. También tuvo parte de su pie amputado debido a una diabetes grave.

Hello everyone, I am writing to you with all my heart. My name is Alexa and I am a 23-year-old single mother who's struggling as the only caregiver for my daughter and my mother.

Four months ago, my partner was deported. My husband was on his way to work when ICE arrested him and took him away. We tried to get him out with a lawyer, but unfortunately it was too late, and he was deported to Guatemala. I now owe $2,000 in attorney fees next week (February 17).

The situation is very difficult now because I am alone with my 16 month old daughter and my husband left me very little money. I have to pay my rent, my daughter’s day care, food, medical expenses and more. I just can’t do it alone with the little money I make. I only work 3 days a week and I’m afraid to go out more often. If I'm taken, my daughter will have nobody to care for her.

The only other family I have is my mother, because my father died when I was 10 years old, but my mother is in Guatemala and very sick. I need to help her with her medical expenses and her diabetes medications. My mom had a hip operation last year, and we are still paying off that debt. She also had part of her foot amputated due to severe diabetes.

I do my best every day to support my mother, partner and daughter. I just want to build a good future for my daughter and I want my father to be proud of me and the family that I have created.
