Hawa’s sister, Bakhita and her three children have endured the unimaginable hardships of war in Sudan. Separated from her husband by the ravages of conflict, Bakhita fled to Al-Jazirah state in search of safety and refuge for her family. However, the sanctuary they sought is now under siege, with the looming threat of heavy artillery and air strikes endangering not only their lives but also the humanitarian aid they so desperately rely on to survive.
Hawa needs a minimum of $9,000 to complete a Canadian Government application for TEMPORARY Sudan War Relief. With this money she will meet the requirements needed to rescue her sister’s family.
My name is Meagan Robertson, and I am a kindergarten teacher in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Nearly two years ago, I had the pleasure of meeting Hawa while teaching her son, Musa. Instantly, I was captivated by Musa and his family. They radiate positivity, love, and kindness despite the tragedies they've endured. Little would you suspect the hardships they've faced. Hawa and her family arrived in Canada on November 7, 2016, seeking medical treatment for her husband, Faysal, who was severely injured in the Darfur war, suffering extensive burns. Despite years of treatment in Jordan and Lebanon, his condition remained critical. With the assistance of the United Nations, they found themselves in Canada, where Faysal has received the medical care he requires. Hawa and Faysal proudly became Canadian citizens in the spring of 2023. Both Hawa and Faysal work tirelessly to support their family while both continuing their education.
During a recent conversation, Hawa confided in me her fears for her family back in Sudan. Holding her as she wept, my heart ached for her. I had been unaware of the ongoing civil war in Sudan, now in its second year, which has claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions.
Our goal is to first raise awareness as to the humanitarian crisis in Sudan and the many families and helpless people who are struggling for safety and respite. $9,000 is the amount of money required to bring this beautiful family to safety. The temporary Sudan support program requires Hawa to have a minimum of $9,000 in her bank account. ALL money donated will go directly to Hawa and their account to bring her family to Canada and ensure their safety. Any amount of support or sharing of this story could make a world of difference in reuniting this resilient family and offering them a new beginning. Thank you.
