My name is Courtney Daley, and I am fundraising for my uncle, David, and his family in Parottee, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. Their community was "ground zero" when Hurricane Melissa, a devastating Category 5 storm, made landfall, causing unimaginable destruction across the parish.

A Horrifying Setback

The situation is heartbreaking. Just last year, David and his family lost their home to a fire. They were in the middle of rebuilding when Hurricane Melissa struck, tearing off the new roof and flooding the property, stopping all progress. Now, what little they had is gone again.

I only learned he was safe by seeing his emotional interview on Nationwide TV, where he described the hurricane as the "worst he had ever seen." He and his family are currently taking temporary shelter at his mother-in-law's house, which also lost its roof and is severely damaged. I can only imagine the fear and despair they feel, without a secure roof over their heads at night.
