My name is Leandra, and my heart weighs heavy as I witness the devastation unfolding in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, where my family and friends live and where I call a second home. I need help raising funds to aid my family and friends in providing relief to those affected.

The recent burst of rain, accounting for a staggering 70% of the average monthly rainfall in just one day, has triggered landslides, river overflow, and unimaginable destruction across 2/3rds of the 500 cities in the state. Porto Alegre, our beloved capital, now stands crippled, with 80% of its population left without the basic necessities of water and electricity.

Amid this chaos, the resilience of our communities shines through as they rally together to face this unprecedented climate crisis head-on. However, the challenges are immense, and the need for immediate assistance cannot be overstated. Families are displaced, homes lie in ruins, and livelihoods have been washed away in the relentless currents of water.

For those stranded without communication, rescue operations are a lifeline. Helicopters, jet skis, and motor boats are essential tools in reaching those in need, navigating through the treacherous floodwaters.

As the waters recede, a new phase of recovery begins. Cleaning supplies are urgently needed to rid homes of the thick, suffocating mud left in the wake of the floods. Businesses, the lifeblood of our communities, must be rebuilt from the ground up.

My plea to you is personal and urgent. Your contribution will fund essential supplies like mattresses, water (which is URGENT), food and other necessities. It will also facilitating rescue missions, and offer relief for hundreds of people. It will make a tangible difference in the lives of those who have lost everything.
