March 3rd Update: Tesla's remarkable recovery is akin to a miracle. We've included photos showcasing the extensive damage inflicted by the unprovoked and unrestrained dog attack. Thanks to Tesla's youth and vitality, her odds of survival warranted a vigorous fight, and she's progressing remarkably well. Our primary battle has been against infection, but now we're seeing tangible victories. Tesla's infectious spunk and happy-go-lucky spirit remain undiminished despite the massive scars. Here's a brief backstory: Tesla was rescued from an unhealthy and unsafe environment, where she was grossly underweight and exploited for breeding. However, in reality, it was Tesla who rescued my mother, a cancer survivor grappling with the aftermath of radiation. Their bond is inseparable; they've rescued each other. The cost of Tesla's care has surpassed our family's resources, and now my mother faces not only her own medical debts but also those incurred for Tesla's treatment. UPDATE 2-24-24: We extend our heartfelt gratitude to those who have generously donated towards saving Tesla's life. It brings us immense relief to share that she is now back home, surrounded by family, and showing signs of improvement. Despite her remarkable progress, Tesla still faces the daunting challenge of infection, particularly due to the extent of necrosis in her gut and back leg area. On Monday, February 26th, Tesla will need to return to the hospital for IV antibiotics and placement on the wound vac. UPDATE 2-16-24: Tesla is still in the hospital. She has had 3 surgeries, is on a wound vac due to necrotic tissue, and she will need further surgeries when her vets feel she can withstand more. The bills are mounting fast and furious, now way past the halfway mark. The vets are trying to save her leg and her life. Meanwhile, Tesla's mom, Debra, has been hospitalized twice. She finally came home yesterday but is still in severe pain and dealing with critical heart issues herself. We are most grateful to everyone who has donated, shared, and reached out. This is a tale of bad things happening to the very best people and of every pet owner’s worst nightmare. Funds are desperately needed to save Tesla, a beautiful and very young German shepherd rescued from a puppy mill. On February 2, she was the victim of a vicious attack by a neighborhood dog with a violent history while she was on-leash, out for her walk. This attack has thus far required two surgeries, one at an emergency clinic and another with a specialist, and the vet bills are mounting with no end in sight. Bruising from force of the bites sustained has caused widespread necrosis to the surrounding tissue, making healing difficult, and a stubborn infection has also set in. It is not yet known how many surgeries or what long-term treatment will be needed, but it will be extensive. Be assured that legal remedies are being pursued through official channels, but we have no idea if any reimbursement will ever be forthcoming. Meanwhile, Tesla is in intensive care following her second emergency surgery, fighting for her life.

Now about Tesla’s owner, who just recently got out of the hospital. This is a person who works, cares for a disabled son and an elderly father, and who is devoted to providing food on a daily basis to anyone in her community who is food-deprived or just needs help surviving. She started a local porch pantry and with one of her sons, she travels around the area every day to pick up food donations and place them on the porch of her personal home for community members in need. She is beside herself about what has happened to her dog, and terrified that she might have to make a decision to euthanize her for lack of funds.

Please help us to avoid that awful scenario for a selfless person who is so deserving of our assistance now that she is in need. This is someone who would never ask anything for herself, only for others, and now for her beloved dog. Vet bills are already halfway to our goal with much more care still needed, and Tesla is not out of the woods. The next few days are very critical, and she remains hospitalized.
