Help Phoenixx Recover From Debt Post Top Surgery

*TIME SENSITIVE* MY UTILITIES ARE ABOUT TO BE SHUT OFF*

Hi friends and community. My name is Phoenixx I am transmasc nonbinary and use they/he pronouns.

 I am a community organizer and trans rights activist in Las Vegas. I just turned 27 and had top surgery (double mastectomy) on March 8th 2024. I am disabled and have not been able to work consistently due to getting cellulitis and sepsis after a major surgery. I live alone with my sweet fur baby Sophie who is my elderly mini schnauzer who is diabetic and has extensive and very expensive medical needs like special insulin and dietary foods.

Right now all of the financial responsibilities are on me and I am drowning in bills. ****All of my utilities have shut off dates***

I’ve used the $2,400 for past due utilites and it is gone. I’m so grateful for those donations because I was able to pay off some of the debt, but I’m being threatened by all of my utilities currently to be disconnected. I also lost my car insurance due to being unable to make payments and am being told my car will be repossessed. Those in the community who either have had top surgery or knows someone understands how chaotic this time is. It took me an entire year fighting with my insurance to have the surgery and once it was approved they gave me less than 3 weeks to actually have the surgery; there was absolutely no time for me to prepare.

I ended up in the hosptial three separate times with cellulitis and sepsis. I genuinely thought that something really bad was going to happen to me. The second hospitalization I started entering stage two with my white blood cell count over 21,000. I spent most of the months of May and June very sick and working has been the last thing on my mind. I’m currently seeking out a trauma specialty therapist with my psychiatrist because she is saying this was quite literally a near death experience which I can’t wrap my head around still. I really did think I could die in that hosptial. I wasn’t responding to IV antibiotics and ended up in intensive care with extremely low blood pressure and heart rate at one point. I went through the majority of all of my hospitalizations alone. Thankfully I had two kind people doing their best to support me but it was a lot for them on top of their own lives. 

I do not have the funds to pay for medical supplies, housing or utilities. I’ve never had to ask for help like this and I’m disappointed with myself that I let it get this bad before asking for help. Because of my chronic illnesses it’s very uncertain how long my recovery will be and I have no choice but to ask for your help.

My water was shut off a few days ago and thankfully they turned it back on after I gave them $300. I was just fined over $500 for registering my car late because it expired while I was in the hosptial. I can’t catch a break and none of these utility companies or my car loan company care that I was deathly ill. 

The world is a mess and I know many folx are also going through hard times. 

Asking for assistance is my last resort. 

A local LGBT organization called me while I was literally in a hospital bed and had promised to take care of my water, gas and electric equating to a little over $1,000 which I would’ve ***never*** asked for but then they stopped replying to me and for god knows what reason said they couldn’t do it anymore which is why the water got turned off. 

Thank you for reading I know this is a lot to take in for a lot of people, but I do believe I am on the other side of things and can just focus on getting better and eventually start to work again.
