Urgent needs for 81-year-old Woman's Home & Vehicle Fund

Donation protected
Hello everyone,

I am setting this account up to help my momma, Myra Carter, who is a beautiful, God-fearing, retired registered nurse. She is 81 years old and lives by herself in Alabama. She is  living on a minimal fixed income, and can barely get by each month. She is very embarrassed and has hid this a long time, because she loves helping others herself. She has just made the best of what she has and thanks good for it all daily. For some people  when you’re a giver , it’s hard to admit you need help. Her 47 year old mobile home floors are falling in 3 different places,  along with numerous other things needing repaired. Her vehicle is at a stand still because she cannot invest annymore money into fixing it.  My husband has spent a year trying to get it running correctly. She doesn't have the funds to take it to the Kia dealership. She has given her life to helping others as a nurse and Christian, and now it's time to help her in these immediate needs as she needs help as soon as possible.

She lives in a 1978 Dolphin 14X76 mobile home that has become a hazard to her health and well-being over the past few years. We have repaired it multiple times and did all that we could to try and maintain it, but it is to the point of no repair or patching anymore. She has asked for local assistance but to no avail has found no help. Upon entering her home, and in her back hall, her floor is falling in (Pictures will follow). It sinks in with any pressure applied by it or on it. I am so afraid I will find her through the floor one day; it would break my heart! Her bed is right by this area as well. Her window in the living room is rotting out on the wood surrounding it, where water comes  in when it rains. She puts towels on the floor below them to catch the water. The mold is starting to come in different places, and that can affect her breathing and lungs. Her tub that she uses to shower is so small and high up that she has to use a small bench to step upon it with a high risk of falling. (She said she would love one of those bathtubs on TV that you open the door and sit down in it and the water comes up to your chest like a bathtub.) Her body hurts all over from Polymyalgia Rheumatica. She has multiple medical problems, including dead nerves in her right foot, and is very weak from anemia-low blood count and is in stage 4 chronic kidney disease. This makes it hard for her to stand on the small bench to get into her tub. Her back garden tub has a leak in the viewing window above the tub with mold, faucets leak and stay dripping,( too much to mention in repairs).
Her kitchen has only 4 top cabinets, 2 bottom cabinets, so little room for that she has to put her pots and pans in her kitchen chairs under the table and her food on a wire rack she has sitting against the wall. Her kitchen drawers , only 4 small ones, are broken and stay open. She has no room for storage anywhere, and things just have to sit out, making it an area for her to trip on and or fall. She was told  mobile home is so old it would fall apart to move.  She dreams being on a quiet lot or land where she could enjoy her later years of living in peace and security. Every time a tornado siren goes off she has to run to my house for safety, and she said she is so tired of running. She lives in a crowded, mobile home lot, that she wants out of so badly. She reached out to a local church about helping her get out of the mobile home a few years back, they said they would pray about it, and she never heard back. So she has quietly made down with what she has and given up slowly. The environment is not good at all. She deserved so much more .  She applied for food stamps, and they will only give her $23.00 a month!??? Hard to believe, isn't it?

She finally traded her old Crown Victoria in for a newer model of a car, a Kia SUV, that she was so proud of a year ago. She had to get a loan to do this, which makes her monthly check even tighter than before. She drove it for 5 months, and it started having multiple check engine lights come on which led to needing a new motor. My husband is a mechanic/diesel mechanic, and replaced the  motor in her car to help save labor cost. After that drive great for 5 months then problems started again. Now it sits in her front yard bc she cannot afford anymore work to be done on it. My husband looked again and replaced 3 other major things for her  and that still didn’t fix it. My husband put a new motor in it and did the labor for her. She has run out of borrowed money to fix it and is stranded at home with no vehicle. She said she was down because she really was so proud of that car. The car bought ended up being a lemon that required a lot of time, money, and labor put into it, and just sits in her driveway now not running. I go take her to her appointments and get all her groceries, but with a job, it makes it more difficult to be there for all her needs and doctor's appointments. We moved here years ago to help take care of her as she ages and lives alone, but we are spent out, and it takes all we have to pay our bills. She needs immediate help. Her dream is simple. It's just to have a small, safe home with bedrooms for guests to stay in, with a covered porch, space for her pots and pans, clothes, food, bathroom supplies, and beautiful flowers she can look at and plant as she can. It would break my heart if she left this earth in this condition. I am asking if anyone (carpenters, owners of real estate, investors, donators) could help her, help build her a place, or help her purchase a small house and a vehicle  that someone maybe has  sitting around not using. Her mind is sharp, she can drive well and does not act 81 at all. It's her time to shine, won't you help to make her life better? I just don't want her worrying or sad anymore. She's worked her years to be able to enjoy her later years in life.

Thank you for listening to her story and for any help you can give her. May God bless you, keep you, and cause His face to shine upon you.

Sincerely,

Mandie Lewis
