On July 23 my husband had an accident that left him with both legs broken above the ankle. He has had surgery on both legs to put in rods and screws and is currently in rehabilitation until August 14. Medicare will pay for a wheelchair, commode and a hospital bed but our house has stairs both in front and back to get in and because this isn't permanent, they do not pay for a ramp for the back deck area or the stair lift for the stairs just inside the back door- which is the only way we will be able to get him into the house. Next week. The stairlift alone is over $3,000 to have installed and 3 months rent (minimum they will do) and inistalled when we're done with it. The ramp will entail a platform built off the short deck in back and a long ramp down the side and back up to the front of the back door. I'm waiting on the quote for that, but we need to start sorting out how to pay for it. We don't have access to that kind of money that fast- or really at all. Hospital and rehab are not much help at all with this- we're sort of floundering trying to figure this out in a short amount of time. The whole thing has blindsided us and we are desperate for help. Thank you for considering us.
