Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted supporters,
My name is Hanna, and I am writing to you with a heavy heart and a deep sense of vulnerability, seeking your support during a life-changing and urgent time. My two young children, Daniel (6) and Noëlle (2), and I are facing significant challenges, and we urgently need help to ensure our safety and future.
In April 2023, we relocated from Stockholm, Sweden, to London, UK, following my then-husband’s new job as a partner at an investment bank. We came with the hope of rebuilding our lives after the devastating loss of our first-born son, Léon, to cancer in 2021. But shortly before our move, our relationship took a sharp turn, and upon arrival, I took on full-time caregiving responsibilities for both children. Despite my efforts to preserve the relationship, a formal separation occurred in 2024.
The children and I are in the UK as dependents on my ex-husband’s skilled worker visa. With the breakdown of our relationship, my right to remain has ended. In 2024, I applied for the EU Settlement Scheme, hoping our circumstances would qualify for a late application, but in March 2025, the Home Office rejected it. After consultations with immigration lawyers, I was advised there are no other viable visa options available.
I have now received a curtailment notice requiring me to leave the UK by 24 September 2025.
As the children live with me full-time and depend on my daily care, I asked their father for consent to relocate with them to Sweden. Unfortunately, we were unable to reach agreement, so I have applied to the UK Family Court for permission to relocate. At the same time, the financial support we previously relied on has been reduced significantly, leaving us without the means to meet the children’s basic needs.
As the primary caregiver managing ongoing legal matters, I have been unable to start working, despite every intention to do so. I spend most of my time preparing legal documents and managing proceedings, as I cannot afford ongoing legal representation. Due to my visa status, I have no access to public funds or legal aid, and pro bono support has been difficult to secure. My savings were depleted while caring for Léon, and I have been unable to rebuild them. This has left me financially vulnerable and struggling to support my children.
We now face removal from the UK, without stable income or legal protection. The thought of being separated from my children or returning to Sweden without proper support is overwhelming. The emotional and psychological toll on us has been immense. I am doing everything in my power to keep Daniel and Noëlle safe, secure, and with me.
We need to return to Sweden, where we have extended family and a supportive network. There, I can begin working again and start rebuilding our lives. But without external support, this move is simply not possible.
I am seeking to raise £25,000 to cover legal fees and relocation costs necessary to bring the children and me safely back to Sweden.
I understand this is a significant sum, but it is necessary to secure imminent legal representation and cover the practical costs of moving and some daily necessities. We already have a temporary home waiting for us in Stockholm, where we will have access to healthcare, free education, and affordable childcare. This will give us the stability we so urgently need.
Asking for help is not easy, but as a mother who has already experienced the profound loss of a child, I know how precious and fragile life is. My wish is to give Daniel and Noëlle the peace, safety, and future they deserve. Your support, whether financial, by sharing our story, or by connecting us with someone who can help, means the world to us.
Funds will go toward legal representation and relocation support. Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a difference.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with us during this incredibly difficult time.
With love,
Hanna, Daniel & Noëlle
