Urgent Need for Joyce & Ziggy's

Approximately 5 years ago, Joyce Newman fulfilled what she always said was her lifelong dream and founded a cat rescue which became a 501(c)(3) in 2014.  She named it after her beloved Ziggy— Ziggy and Friends Cat Rescue.  Her mission was to rescue cats from high kill shelters and the streets across Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, and Riverside Counties.  Over the last 5 years, Joyce has saved thousands of lives, often rescuing the difficult medical cases, or the cats nobody else would take.  Tragically last Thursday, 2/22/2018, Joyce passed away unexpectedly and alone at home from complications of the flu at a young age of 59.

Even though Joyce was a cat rescuer, there was not an animal nor a person in need that Joyce Newman was not willing to help in any way she could.  She was a friend to all, and the stories about her kindness and devotion continue to pour in — she touched so many lives.  She helped a homeless man feed and care for his cats, and paid for his veterinary bills.  She spent hours networking shelter animals, and those that were abandoned on the streets sick and in need.  There is a story that someone told about Joyce’s determination to help all animals in need.  This person had told Joyce that there was a little lamb in need of rescue at one of the LA shelters.  The very next day Joyce was on the phone trying to find out where that little lamb was to see what she could do to help rescue him, and save his life!!  Of course the story was just that — a story, and there was no little lamb in need, but there was Joyce — right there willing to jump in, and help rescue that little lamb!!

In an attempt to keep the Rescue and Joyce’s lifelong dream alive, her Board of Directors still has expenses related to the care of the 30 cats she has saved from LA’s high-kill shelters, as well as her 6 personal cats who still need to find loving homes.  In order to do this, the Board needs to raise funds.  They have several thousand dollars in outstanding veterinary bills related to the care of the 30 cats, including two sick senior cats that have ongoing medical needs.

There are also personal expenses related to her cremation, and with no immediate family this responsibility has fallen to her friends, and the Board of Directors.

Joyce loved and cherished her personal cats, Boo Boo, Peaches, Max, Lily, Ricky and Nemo who are pictured below.  Her beloved Ziggy, who she named her rescue after, died just three months before Joyce.  The Board and her friends would like to find loving homes for her remaining 6 personal cats.

If anybody can help in anyway, please contact her board of directors:
