Some of you may know, I work with recently resettled immigrants in our community. I'm involved with a local ESL program. I also help with the process of settling these families. Mostly though, our family befriends these families and we enjoy inviting them into our life.

Our family has become close with one family in particular that recently resettled here from Afghanistan. They were granted SIV status because of the father's years of assisting our country's military during U.S. involvement in the region.

Yesterday, I learned that a family member still living in their homeland was denied medical care and surgery for a serious eye injury. He's married and has a child; they were unsuccessful fleeing the country before the Taliban came to power. This father has not been able to work since the incident took place. He reached out for help from his family here, but they do not have the means to help financially. We are praying with them for this need to be met.

I inquired about the amount that is needed and was told the surgery and medical care is around $700-$800. I would like to raise $1,000 to send to this young family. I am in contact with him and am confident the funds will be used for medical purposes.
