My name is Belal Alterry, a Palestinian from the Gaza Strip currently residing in Belgium. I'm deeply saddened by the hunger, fear, and the terrible effects of war that my family my father, mother, brothers, sisters, and their children are experiencing. They are living in a tent for displaced persons in southern Gaza.

My family was displaced from northern Gaza at the start of the war. They suffered a devastating loss after our large house, my brother Rajaa's apartment, and my brother Rajeh's apartment were destroyed, along with all the cherished memories and simple dreams they held. They lost all their belongings, cars and clothes, becoming displaced and refugees once again. We lost some family members, and we have another brother, Mohammad, who remains trapped alone in the northern of Gaza, unable to join them.

Under these tough times, my family is trying hard to leave Gaza for safety. But the high travel expenses to Egypt stand in the way of their hope for a peaceful life away from war. Therefore, I've initiated this donation campaign to raise funds and facilitate their evacuation from Gaza to Egypt, offering them a ray of hope amidst the darkness of conflict.

How the funds will be used A total of $55,000 has been set aside to cover the costs related to securing permits to exit Gaza, as well as the crossing fees at the Rafah border with Egypt. This allocation amounts to USD $2500 - $5000 per person, covering the expenses for the families of my two brothers and my parents, totaling 14 people. The adults include Ziyad, Yousra, Rajeh, Rajaa, Nisreen, Mohammed, Ahmed, and Nour, while the children are Ziyad, Berin, Islam, Yousef, Jana, and Yousra. This sum does not account for the transaction fees charged by GoFundMe, which are 2.9% plus $0.30 per donation, In addition to transportation expenses and living essentials for all family members.

My heart is filled with deep sorrow when I think of Berin, my nephew's daughter, who is battling hepatitis and whose condition has worsened significantly during the ongoing war. This painful reality serves as a stark reminder of the severe impact humanitarian crises have on the most vulnerable individuals.

Berin, who is battling illness, showcases her talent in drawing even in the face of wartime challenges. She uses her colors and brush as a means of expressing the difficulties she encounters and her inner strength to overcome them. This talent serves as an inspiration and symbol of resilience during times of turmoil and adversity.

My family is currently facing tragic circumstances inside a tent. This tent, intended for shelter, does not adequately protect us from extreme temperatures. During scorching summers, it becomes unbearably hot, while in freezing winters, it provides little insulation against the cold. This challenging environment makes it difficult for us to sleep comfortably or maintain good health. Access to basic necessities like food, clean water, and medical care is severely limited, worsening our already difficult situation. Living in these conditions is not only physically challenging but also emotionally draining, as we hold onto hope for a better future beyond this temporary shelter.

My family also needs help with basic life expenses such as food, water, and medication, as prices have become exorbitant. My brother informed me that a single egg costs at least 1.2 dollar now. My family lost their savings due to the bombing of our home and my siblings' apartments in northern Gaza. They are now surviving on limited canned food donations that do not suffice for everyone in the family.

We did not leave our cat behind when we had to leave our home, but now we are facing difficulties in providing food for her. It is challenging to ensure that our cat, who is an important part of our family, receives the care and nourishment she needs. Our cat brings us comfort and joy, and it pains us to see her struggle.

This is my niece, Islam. This year was her first year at school, but she only attended for one month before she stopped receiving any education in her life.
