Formerly titled: HELP A DISABLED WOMAN AND CAT STAY HOUSED
**Theresa and Jordy are now homeless and living in a car. Please see campaign updates for most recent information. Thank you for considering sharing your support with us in this challenging time.**
Hi, my name is Theresa, though some of you may know me as Anna.
I am about to lose my housing, and I need your help so I can find somewhere new to live. If I am not able to raise enough money, I will have to live in my car. Please read more below and consider donating and sharing this page. Thank you!
I am a web software engineer and engineering manager with over a decade of experience, but I have been out of work for a while due to chronic health issues. I have been doing everything I can to find a new job in my industry, and I am also looking for any other kind of work I can do given my physical disabilities.
I have been surviving on savings and financial support from my extended family, but these have both run out and I can no longer afford to pay my rent. I have given notice on my current apartment, and I have to move out by the end of March. I am now desperately scrambling to try to find a new place to live, but this is almost impossible to do without a steady income. Until I can find regular work, my only hope is to try to raise enough money that I can offer to pay for multiple months of rent in advance.
I have been living in the San Francisco Bay Area for the past nine years, but I am going to try to move to the Central Valley or Sacramento area, where housing is less expensive. If I can raise $6,000, that would cover roughly six months of rent, and hopefully be enough to convince someone to rent me a room or a small studio.
Any donation you are able to make, small or large, will make an enormous difference in my life. All money will go directly towards housing expenses.
It is not easy for me to ask for help. I’m usually the one making donations or helping others.
I have had a difficult life. I am a survivor of child abuse, domestic violence, and sexual assault. I’ve been unhoused before, when I was younger. I don’t think I can do it again.
I struggle every day with depression, anxiety, panic, and other symptoms of PTSD and Borderline Personality Disorder. One in ten people with these conditions will die from their illness. I don’t want to be a statistic.
I also have physical disabilities. I have arthritis in both knees and problems with my lower back, which make it very difficult for me to stand or walk for more than a few minutes at a time (even with my cane or walker).
Jordy is my cat, and he has saved my life. I have struggled with depression and suicidal thoughts for as long as I can remember. In my darkest moments, Jordy helps me remember my reasons for living. I love him so much, and I don’t know what I would do without him if I have to go live in my car or a shelter.
I’m terrified. I’m too disabled to be unhoused again. I can’t lose Jordy. I need your help.
You can also help by letting me know about:
- Affordable apartments or rooms for rent.
- Companies or individuals looking to hire someone with my skills.
- Remote work of any kind, or work which doesn’t require standing or walking.
- Places I may be able to store my things if I have to live in my car.
- Anything else you think might be helpful.
