Hello everyone...
My battle began in December 2022 when I was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of acute leukemia called Myeloid Neoplasms with Eosinophilia and Tyrosine Kinase Fusion Genes. After a tough and long battle I achieved remission, but the journey left me with long-term health complications. Despite my best efforts to return to a normal life, I have been in and out of the hospital, trying to manage autoimmune diseases such as Graft-Versus-Host Disease. For anyone that may not know this can affect the body in countless ways from skin issues to organ failure. I've experienced some amount of just about all of it.
Unfortunately, my health has taken yet another turn for the worst. On July 20th, I was readmitted to the hospital after a brief period at home. A recent kidney biopsy provided some answers but also caused severe complications with my lungs, heart, and kidneys. At least we were getting some answers... I was diagnosed with Thrombotic Microangiopathy (TMA), a rare and serious condition that demands immediate and intensive treatment, including chemotherapy and frequent dialysis. The good news is that I should be able to one day make a full recovery in time. It may take years to fully recover.
On Friday, August 22nd, I was discharged from Hackensack University Medical Center, preparing to fly back to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville Florida. This is where my original care team is located -the doctors who have been with me since the beginning and know every detail of my complex diagnosis and case. Despite serious concerns from both my mom and me about the fluid still collecting in my lungs, we were told it was safe to leave. But just that same night it was clear something was wrong, I was coughing up a significant amount of vascular fluid to the point of nearly becoming unconscious. I was rushed back to the emergency room by ambulance, unable to breathe on my own. In that moment, my mother had to make the decision to have me sedated and intubated. The severe fluid buildup and lack of oxygen put an immense and dangerous strain on my heart. I could have died if we did not intervene in time.
To get the life-saving care I urgently need, I must return to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. It's become clear that they are more equipped to treat me and even Hackensack themselves agree it is for the best. The sooner the better.
How Can You Help?
The medical transport required to get me there is not covered by my Medicare or Medicaid. We need to raise $24,000 to cover the cost of a medically equipped Air Ambulance Transport from New Jersey to Florida.
Despite these setbacks I intend to try to and live as much a normal life as possible. I read, I watch anime, I play video games when I have the energy and time. I also just began school again, though completely online which was not my original plan. I have a passion for animal science and ecology and before my initial leukemia diagnosis in 2022 I was working as a Vet Technician. I want to continue to pursue this passion in some way and I'm not letting these challenges get in my way. Any further assistance of course helps with this and other living expenses as well. All of it is greatly appreciated.
Your donation, no matter the amount, will make an impact on my ability to continue this fight. If you aren't able to donate, please, I only ask that you share my story with everyone you know. Thank you for taking the time to read about my journey. Much love
