My name is Erez Bleicher and I am a justice organizer living in Jerusalem and a member of All That's Left: Anti-Occupation Collective. In this capacity I have worked closely with various communities in Area C of the occupied West Bank for the past three years through a number of coordinated campaigns, work days, and actions.
Last week I was contacted by one of my dearest friends and partners in the region whose mother is urgently in need of medical care. She is a beloved and cherished elder of her community who has suffered severely after her knee was broken by settlers in a vigilante attack in 2012, and who has undergone a series of knee surgeries since.
Now she needs 5,600 NIS (1,564 US) to finance what will hopefully be a final surgery to install metal pins and alleviate her pain going forward. My colleague reached out and requested that all those that have visited in solidarity over the last years and whom he has hosted please help him and his family find the resources to care for their loved one. They are hoping to move forward with the procedure by early July, so as soon as the funds are raised I will make a trip to the community and make sure your contributions allow them to schedule the necessary appointment.
This grandmother's injury must be understood within the wider context of settler violence and military occupation. As Yesh Din reports, such violence is "a widespread practice involving many Israeli citizens and includes acts of violence, damage to property, takeover of Palestinian land, and other offenses. Most violent offenses take place on Palestinian farmland or on the outskirts of Palestinian villages, and are part of a calculated strategy for dispossessing Palestinians of their land."
It is unacceptable that state-sanctioned violence continues to be carried out with impunity in Area C, harming local communities and disrupting their livelihoods. Let's show our solidarity and help our friends remain steadfast on their lands. Please give generously and share far and wide!
