Support My Husband’s Urgent Medical Surgery and Our Family in Crisis
Dear Supporters,
Thank you for taking the time to visit our campaign and consider supporting our family during this incredibly difficult time. My name is Anna, and I am reaching out with deep humility and hope to share our story and ask for your help.
How it began
Last year, in July my husband lost his job unexpectedly. Soon after, he was diagnosed with a life-threatening abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) and gangrene of his toes, which required an urgent amputation. Luckily it was two toes only that were amputated and the rest were saved by the amazing doctors in Rashid hospital in Dubai. The next step - he needs another urgent surgery — but we have no insurance, no stable income, and no country to call home. Even though my husband is from the UK, he isn’t entitled to the care of the NHS due to being expatriate for many years. A fatal condition without Surgery costs over £50,000 in Dubai. We managed to raise and spend £10,000 on initial care and housing, but we’re still far from the full cost.
Our Situation
• We’ve lived in the UAE for 25 years but hold no citizenship or legal protection in n this country.
• I am from Azerbaijan; my husband and children are British citizens. But because of visa rules, I cannot live in the UK with them without complex and costly immigration proceedings.
• We were forced to buy a business license last year just to stay in the UAE legally — and must keep renewing it on a yearly basis ( £3000/year) • Our 8-year-old twins now enter on visitor visas because we can’t afford their legal residency.
• We are stateless in practice — neither fully accepted in the UAE nor allowed to reunite in the UK or Azerbaijan.
Our Daily Life
• I run a small gluten-free home bakery that just about covers utilities.
• My husband receives a tiny pension that feeds us.
• We are struggling to pay our rent, but we are still trying to smile for our children.
• We’ve never asked for help before — but now we truly need it.
What We Need
£50,000 for the surgery (or to relocate him to a place where it’s cheaper)
• Money to renew visas and keep our family legally together
• Support to survive the coming months
Why We Need Your Help
Our family is in a dire financial situation following my husband’s job loss from last year. Despite his many years of dedication to his work, we were left with no severance pay or gratuity. The stress of unemployment and financial instability has taken a severe toll on his health, leaving us in an incredibly vulnerable position.
We are also facing:
• Education expenses for our 8-year-old twin daughters
• Rent payments every quarter
• Basic living expenses while both my husband and I search for employment
Our Urgent Need:
We urgently need to fund my husband’s operation-Aortic stent placement to prevent a potentially fatal aneurysm rupture
The Challenge We Face:
- My husband has been unable to work nearly a year
- His end-of-service gratuity is being unpaid
- We couldn’t secure his medical insurance
- Dubai medical costs are beyond our means
- Our girls can’t continue education
Time is Critical
Every day we wait increases the risk of the aneurysm rupturing (which has a very high mortality rate)
The doctors have emphasized that this surgery is urgently needed.
What We've Done So Far:
- We are Selling all our valuables (including car, furniture, electronics)
- I am continuing offering my gluten free baked goods while actively looking for a job ( resume can be provided on request)
- Applied for local charitable assistance
- Exhausted our savings
- Reached out to family and friends
How You Can Help:
- Any donation, no matter how small, brings us closer to saving his life
- Sharing this campaign with your network
- Keeping us in your thoughts and prayers
