Mark Wallace's journey to a double lung transplant has been a long and emotional one. It all started on 10/20/2020, when Mark called his wife at work, telling her he was short of breath. Rushing home to take him to the ER, they soon found out that Mark had Aortic Stenosis and an issue with his lungs that required a biopsy. This led to a two and a half year journey filled with numerous hospitalizations, treatments, and diagnoses.

Mark's lungs were in very bad shape, and his pulmonologist advised that he would most likely need to be evaluated for a transplant. However, he needed to get worse before a lung transplant would be considered. In the middle of all this, they also found out that Mark had an autoimmune disorder that required chemo infusions every six months. As time went on, Mark's condition continued to deteriorate, and it became clear that he needed a lung transplant to survive.

Finally, in May 2023, Mark received a call that a donor had been found and that he was a match for the double lung transplant he so desperately needed. However, the journey was far from over. After undergoing a 10-hour surgery, Mark has been in ICU since 5/16/23, fighting to have his new lungs not reject and to get well. He has not been able to eat or drink, and every day is a battle for his life.

The road to recovery is long and costly. Once he is discharged from the hospital, Mark and his wife will have to rent an apartment and stay in Gainesville for 3-5 months, visiting the hospital daily, and managing their pets and homes. Mark has not been able to work since 10/20/2020, and any support would be greatly appreciated.
