Hi everyone. My name is Aaron Douglas, and I sincerely appreciate you taking a moment to read my story below.

In mid-August, my wife and I arrived in a new place, seeking my retired life, and semi-retired life for her in a quiet place. Only one week after our arrival, my wife injured her back seriously, which was so far diagnosed as Burst Fractures in the spine. This happened when she got close to a Holstein cow in the neighborhood, and the cow knocked her to the ground with its head, where there was many and unknown debris scattered. It happened in less than a few seconds. Right after, when she was on the ground on her back, she could not breathe for seconds and could not speak for a few minutes. Now she can’t get up from her bed, use the bathroom, walk, etc. by herself because of her severe spinal pain.

I took her, of course, to the ER, where they did X-rays, a CT scan, etc. Then she saw an orthopedist the ER referred her to. Now we have a huge problem.

She is not covered by any health/medical insurance at all. Not only these initial treatments, but she will also have to go through more imaging, including an MRI, and surgery. These initial treatments alone would cost thousands of dollars without insurance.

Even after these treatments, the doctor informed us that she would need physical therapy for months or maybe years to come. But first things first, she will need to get these treatments with a more accurate diagnosis, less invasive surgery, or conventional surgery.

I, as her husband, am retired, so I myself am not covered by health insurance either. I am trying to get some insurance for her, but the possible insurance enrollment will not begin until January 2025. Obviously, she can’t wait that long.
