Dear Friends, Family and Kind Supporters,

Thank you all for helping bring Marty back to Honolulu! Your love and generosity are greatly appreciated! Upon arrival Marty was admitted to Kaiser Moanalua. He will be transferred soon to Avalon Skilled nursing and rehab care facility. He needs to gain strength to be considered for the spinal surgery. He will be doing physical therapy to keep and build his muscles in his arms and legs. At this time his arms and legs need to be exercised with physical therapy with the plan that he will regain mobility in them.

We will keep you updated. We don’t know how long he will need to be in the nursing facility and what the costs will

Marty — a beloved husband, uncle, brother, and our best friend — traveled to Cancun for specialized dental implant surgery. He was expecting to return home shortly after the first phase of the work. But soon after surgery, things took a turn. Marty became critically ill and was rushed to the ICU in Cancun.

His wife, Sue, flew there immediately to be by his side. Sue was able to arrange a medivac through Kaiser to bring Marty from Cancun to Miami, where he was admitted directly into the ICU. He is now in the Critical Care Unit (CCU).

The doctors now feel it would be best for Marty to return to Honolulu, where he can continue his recovery with his own medical team. Once he is in Honolulu his continued treatment will require 6-8 weeks of additional antibiotics to treat his infections. When they are cleared he will undergo two additional surgeries. He needs to be in Honolulu surrounded by his loved ones. Honolulu is home. It’s where his support system is, and where healing can truly begin.
