We are a family of four who just recently had to make the difficult decision to put one of our dogs to sleep. She was 11, almost 12. Shortly after that heartbreaking experience, we landed at the emergency vet with 2 of our other dogs. Our 7-year-old Boston Terrier has been suffering from high protein buildup in his urine, which in turn is causing him some kidney issues. His creatinine levels, when the vet first noticed something was off, were at 2.5, and the normal level is 0.5. Our vet started him on Benazepril in hopes of bringing his levels back down. At 2 weeks, he had a urine test to recheck his levels to see if the medications were helping. Unfortunately, his levels had spiked to 5.5. At that point, we were referred to the emergency vet's internal medicine department. We had an ultrasound done, among some other testing. He was cleared of cancer and some other underlying issues and was put on 2 more medications for possible autoimmune disease. He had yet another 2-week follow-up for a urine test to see if the new added medications were bringing down his levels, and once again, his levels have spiked up to 7.5. He currently has reduced kidney function. The only sure way to find out what is happening to our dog is to get a kidney biopsy. It is a $5,000 procedure. We unfortunately do not have the funds to cover this and are hoping that with your help, we can raise enough to get this done in the next few weeks so that our dog does not go into kidney failure. We are overly stressed and very worried about our pup as you can imagine. We do not like to ask for help, but our beloved fur baby deserves any chance that we can give him, so we are setting our pride aside and asking for your help to save our boy.
