IMPORTANT UPDATE:

Im very happy to announce that we have secured the funds necessary to get Shi-Shi the mandible fracture repair surgery, which is the best case scenario at this point. Thank you to everyone for their incredible support and generosity. Part of her recovery journey will include costly follow-up care including medications, further imaging, anesthesia, the removal of the jaw wiring, possible tooth extractions, and any other medical needs along the way. I will leave the fundraiser active for this reason, and to also make up for expenses we faced thus far. Hello to all friends, family, and animal lovers. It pains me greatly to tell you that our sweet little cat Shi-Shi needs serious medical attention. If she does not receive jaw surgery, she will continue to suffer and struggle to eat, which is unfair to her. She is currently unable to close her mouth, and can barely swallow food.

Last week my daughter Teale was granted a trip to Disney World by Make-A-Wish Foundation which was a dream come true for her. We left our cat Shi-Shi and our dog Bodie with family while we left for the week. There were no issues the entire time, but the day we got home our dog became aggressive with the cat, likely due to the stress of our absence. This caused Shi-Shi to run and jump off of the landing that leads to the upstairs, which is when we believe she hit her chin on the hardwood floor. We think that Bodie became jealous of the attention Shi-Shi received upon our return, and our Vet said that this is not uncommon. Bodie and Shi-Shi have lived together for over 6 years and this has never happened before.

Immediately after the incident occurred, we jumped into the car and rushed her to an animal urgent care center. At the time, she was heavily open-mouth breathing and we didn’t know how serious the injury was, or if she would even make it to the hospital. After they immediately brought her to the exam room, the doctor came out to tell us that there were no internal injuries, but that there may be a jaw fracture. They referred us to an animal dentist and oral surgeon, and gave us several different pain medications.

After the high costs of the initial ER visit, the pain medications, the x-rays, the blood work, and the consultation with the specialist, we are financially overwhelmed and quite frankly unable to afford the mandible fracture repairs necessary for Shi-Shi to recover.
