In April 2025, my sisters and I lost our eldest sibling Ethan to suicide. They were 33.
I am the 22-year-old brother of my two little sisters, who are 19 and 17. (I have blurred the photo to protect identity. Ethan is pictured).
Ethan was a brilliant person and a constant source of support for me and my sisters, despite their limited resources as a Black, trans, disabled person. They will be so missed.
Why we need your help
Housing was one of many fatal pressures in Ethan's life.
My youngest sister will begin her final year of school in September. Right now, she's living in an unsafe housing situation. She has already attempted to take her life and urgently needs safe and stable accommodation. The stakes are very high. Given her prior attempts, losing Ethan puts her at alarmingly high risk of suicide.
Neither of our parents is able to support us. I want my sister to live with me until she finishes school. I graduate from university this summer, but even with a full-time job, I won’t have the money to relocate my sister to live with me. I'm asking for your help to make this possible.
What the funds will cover
Your donations would go towards a 12-month contract for a two-bedroom flat in London, near my sister's school and our support network.
Any extra funds will go towards:
- grief counselling for me and my sisters
- basic living costs during this transition
- funeral costs
Final words
Please give anything you can and share widely. It all helps.
Thank you all
P.S.
Logistics:
You might be wondering whether landlords would ask for proof of income.
I’ve spoken with Citizens Advice, and even without a long rental history or current proof of income, many landlords will accept a large rental advance instead. People often secure housing through inheritance or savings.
Also note that my sister turns 18 in October, though I would be the sole contract holder either way.
