On the evening of the 30th of July, Bugingo "Desire" Moses was maintaining an outdoor latrine for the Desire Kids in Kampala, Uganda, when a Black Mamba, one of the world's fastest and deadliest snakes, struck without warning.

The venom from a single Black Mamba bite can kill 15 grown men.

By some miracle, Bugingo survived the initial attack and made it to the hospital alive. He is still very weak. He has been paralyzed over half of his body, and has struggled to stay conscious. People all over the world are praying for him. A few days ago, he was able to speak a little and eat solid food. Slow improvement, but definite progress thanks to the treatments, but we're not out of danger yet.

The Fight Isn't Over... Treatment Has STOPPED

Bugingo's life-saving treatments have already been halted by the hospital.

Right now, as you read this, Bugingo is weak in a Ugandan hospital bed, receiving only a basic paracetamol (Tylenol) drip for the pain. The critical antivenom and anticoagulant treatments that were keeping him alive have been stopped because the hospital is demanding immediate payment of at least half of what is currently due.

They want $2,500 NOW to restart the critical treatment he needs to recover.

The total current bill has reached 17,668,000 Ugandan Schillings - about $5,000 USD, and grows every day they keep him, even while they are withholding treatment.

This cruel practice is heartbreakingly common in Ugandan hospitals, but that doesn't make it any less urgent. Without proper treatment, Bugingo's condition will deteriorate. Timing is critical.

Who Is Bugingo "Desire" Moses?

Bugingo Desire has dedicated his life to rescuing and adopting some of Uganda's most compromised and vulnerable children through his Desire Child Care Organization, a vetted, indigenous nonprofit NGO. He was literally building facilities for these kids when the snake struck him.

This is a man who constantly puts the children's needs before his own health and safety, and now he needs us.

  • Bugingo's mother, Nkiinzi Grace, is caring for many of the children in the countryside who are currently facing massive food shortages,
  • His best friend George sold his precious motorcycle to help pay for the initial treatments and is helping with the care of the Desire Kids along with Bugingo's brother Daniel & the older Desire Kids,
  • His sisters left the country to pursue better job prospects, and are sending what they can, but are not paid until the end of the month.
  • George is sleeping very little, spending every extra moment by Bugingo's side at the hospital, watching over him like a brother, trying to keep his spirits up, as well as his own.

How You Can Help Restart Life-Saving Treatment RIGHT NOW

We need $2,500 TODAY to restart treatment. Every minute counts. Every dollar adds up. Angel donors who can do more are especially needed right now.

The hospital is standing by. The moment we reach $2,500, treatment resumes.

Every single dollar goes directly to these medical bills. We have full transparency with the hospital and will provide updates on his progress.

The Children Are Waiting

The 33 Desire Kids are praying non-stop for their taata to come home. They've already endured so much... we cannot let them lose the man who saved them from the streets of the slums and gave them hope and a chance at life.

Please help us bring their hero home.
Share this campaign. Every share could save Desire's life.

This GoFundMe campaign is managed by Rev. Rabbi Henry-Cameron Allen, mentor and patron of DCCO for the past 4 years, and his philanthropic group, Hermi's Hermits. All funds will be transferred immediately through him to cover treatment and hospital costs. Updates will be posted regularly.
