I’m Laura Holcomb, my husband is Corey. Corey was diagnosed with multiple organ failure and given 3-6 months to live. He’s not a transplant candidate because his heart is only functioning at 10-15%. The hospital is ready to discharge him but we don’t have a walk in shower. Our master bedroom only has a 1/2 bath, sink & toilet. I had a contractor come give us an estimate on turning the hall coat closet into a shower, it shares a wall with our bathroom. The contractor says the closet is too small & in order to bump the closet out far enough to make it big enough, we have to move our front door over. The cost of that will be $16,000 if there are no problems discovered. Our house was built in 1964 so I expect issues. Additionally we are going to have to put in a ramp to get him in & out of our house. We have 3 very high concrete steps up to our porch. Lastly, should he want to sit by the fire in our den to watch tv, we will need a ramp as that part of our house is down 2 steps. This illness came out of nowhere for me. He works from home so he’s always in sweats or pjs. He hid all the symptoms he was experiencing because he didn’t want to worry me. After 35 yrs, I just need to make him as comfortable as possible for the last bit of time we have together.
