On November 21, 2022, my son Austin, a 23-year-old Army veteran who served our country with pride, survived a catastrophic wreck in New Mexico, suffering severe brain and spinal cord injuries, worsened by further brain damage after two codes. For nearly two and a half years, Austin fought for his life across several out-of-state hospitals, battling paraplegia, a tracheostomy, and complex medical needs. As his sole caregiver, I gave up work to be by his side, leaving us without income. Now, Austin is back in Louisiana, but we’re in a desperate situation—essentially homeless, cramped in the living room of a friend’s house for months. Our friend has no space for Austin’s specialized bed, power wheelchair, or therapy equipment, and we urgently need to move out but have nowhere to go.

Our own home, neglected during Austin’s hospitalizations, is uninhabitable—its roof leaks, floors are warped, and it lacks accessibility for Austin’s needs. We’ve pleaded with Veterans Affairs, senators, congressmen, and governors for help, but no support has come. We urgently need $50,000 to repair the roof, install new flooring, build ramps, and add a room with a concrete slab for Austin’s medical equipment and special bed to help heal his wounds.
