Juan Carlos, a much-loved member of the Manzanillo community, is in dire need of our help. His hernia has ruptured badly and requires immediate surgery. Unfortunately, Juan Carlos cannot afford the procedure. He lives very modestly outdoors, without a house, savings, or health insurance.

We have already consulted Dr Alexis (a surgeon in San José/Alajuela) about the expected costs. A major hernia operation in that region is roughly USD 4,500. Generously, Dr Alexis has offered to cover USD 500, plus one night of hospital care and all post-operative medication. That still leaves approx. USD 4,200 to pay, including transport to San José/Alajuela.
