Original Hells Kitchen Legend, Local 94 Brother, Proud Pop Pop, Father, Uncle, Brother & Friend….

How do you speak about your entire world in a paragraph. My family and I are struggling to do the same for a proud man that would never ask for help… or a hand out..ever!!

Our Legend of a dad was Born and raised in Hells Kitchen with a killer work ethic and a McGiver sense of fixing all things, our dad started modestly in the Famous Fulton Fish Market working the delivery trucks and at 21 raising his family, working side jobs at Lincoln Center, then Epsteins Paint Store on 9th Avenue, and finally doing what he was born to do… Be a proud Local 94 Operating Engineer for 25 years for Paramount Group.

Tragedy hit on 2/22/24 while in Puerto Rico - he suffered a ISCHEMIC STROKE.. but arrived to the hospital in time and they saved his life with the LIFE SAVING STROKE SHOT and an immediate thrombectomy. However, that is where the saving ended and the fight began! He awoke paralyzed on his full right side impacting his ability to walk, talk, swallow, eat, speak and BE HERMAN. We slept at the hospital 24/7 protecting him from what we quickly discovered was the limited care / resources of the Hospital. Providing everything from our own diapers and hospital gowns, to bedsheets and blankets. In turn, he suffered aspirating pneumonia, fantom fevers, waited for 8 days for a simple CT Scan. We were at our wits end and sadly chasing and begging doctors and the hospital to pay attention to his only good hand, the left hand, as it turned blue. We Begged, yelled and fought over 8 weeks…We were fighting for the care, a man that worked his entire life, deserved. This loving funny giant of a man that would fight for any person reading this post! He was that guy! We begged them, the hospital, to pay attention to his blue fingers turning darker by the week and ultimately dying while they treated his pain with TYLENOL… His shrinking gangrene left index finger died… we finally got the ear of a surgeon that heard our pleas and agreed to amputate his finger in order to save his hand. His finger was amputated, the remaining fingers are fighting to stay healthy along with is SPIRIT as I write this plea.

Horrifically, he was released back to his home in PR with zero services as they promised. His health is now declining due to the lack of care.. lack of PT.. he has lost 60 pounds, has lost all muscle tone barely getting any PT, ZERO speech therapy.. ZERO occupational therapy and in turn needing a foley catheter, six NG feeding tubes, 2 PEG stomach feeding tubes. The last causing such internal bleeding he went into HEMORAGIC SHOCK needing 9 blood transfusions… all to get new infections. Again released to the home with such limited care and resources…

WE NEED TO FLY HIM home! TO SAVE HIS LIFE! The only way to do so is by hiring an AIR AMBULANCE to get him back here to us and pray he can be admitted for EMERGENCY CARE to start this process all over and undo the damage over the last 9 weeks.

Please Help us SAVE OUR DADS LIFE, HERMAN DESERVES ANOTHER FIGHTING CHANCE. HE COULDN’T SURVIVE ALL OF THIS WITHOUT A PLAN. PLEASE HELP IN ANYWAY YOU CAN.
