These are real people facing real danger.
We are raising $830 to help a small group of Uyghur Muslims who fled the Chinese government’s brutal persecution and escaped into Pakistan. These families originally came from Afghanistan but were residing in Xinjiang, China, where they faced constant religious and cultural oppression for being Uyghur and Muslim.
There are currently 15 Afghan-Uyghur families (around 60 individuals) stranded in Pakistan. Many of them are undocumented, and if they are sent back to China, they face severe punishment or worse.
Some of the families have started the legal process to acquire Afghan passports, which will allow them to apply for legal visas to Turkey — a country willing to take them in. While most of the group is still in the middle of paperwork and verification, a few family members already have their documents ready. We have a short window of opportunity to get them to safety.
This fundraiser is to cover the urgent travel and visa expenses for those few individuals who are cleared to leave right now. Once they are safely settled, we will begin raising funds for the rest of the group as their documents come through, inshaAllah.
