Hope for Gaza —Support Maya, Mesk & Karam’s Family

My name is Mahmoud, I am a Licensed Professional Engineer and a Canadian Citizen. I am gathering donations for my family in Gaza to help support their evacuation through the Rafah border. My uncles, aunts and their children have been forcibly displaced and currently living in tent camps due to the complete destruction of their homes. My cousin Heyam and her husband Mohammed have a son name Karam who has been diagnosed with cancer. The only hospital that treats pediatric cancer patients in Gaza has been bombed and no longer operational. He was forced to discharge from the hospital and seek treatment elsewhere.

Also among them is my recently widowed cousin Maya who lost her husband, Mohammad Al-Salhi, a journalist with the Fourth Authority News Agency in Gaza. His life was tragically cut short and unfortunately, he did not get the chance to see his first new-born daughter Mesk who was born just one month after he was killed. Maya is now raising Mesk without a father in the harshest of conditions. Even basic necessities for the baby such as milk, diapers, and vaccines are near impossible to get. Other essentials and basic needs such as food and clean water are scarce and hard to get. They are suffering through harsh winter conditions making the situation even more difficult as they don’t have proper shelter, clothes, or a sustainable heating source. They have all been displaced and have been on the move from one area of Gaza to another seeking shelter and safety. Every day that goes by, their situation gets worse and chances of survival drop. Communication is extremely difficult as there are complete communication blackouts for days or weeks at a time sometimes.

I am turning to this community to help us deliver them to safety and provide them with basic necessities. I want to thank all of you in advance for your support and prayers towards everyone living through these difficult times in Gaza. Please help us give them hope and a chance at escaping the war and to help them rebuild a life after the war is over. A life where Karam can continue and complete his chemotherapy treatment. A life where Mesk does not have to go a day without having her basic needs met. A life where their families can try to piece together something that somewhat resembles a normal life.

2024 UPDATE: Karam is now in Turkey getting treatment with his mom. They are there temporary but we still need a permanent treatment plan as he will not be able to return to Gaza since the hospital is non operational.

We want to reunite him with his father and siblings and other relatives still stuck in Gaza.

2025 - UPDATE: With deep sorrow, we share the heartbreaking news that Karam has passed away after a long and courageous battle. He has been laid to rest in Ankara, Turkey.

Karam’s mother and two brothers remain in Turkey, while his father, Mohammed, and older brother, Zeyad, are still in Gaza and have not been able to leave. We are seeking your support to help reunite this grieving family during this incredibly difficult time.

Maya continues to face immense challenges in securing basic necessities for her daughter, Mesk. As a single mother enduring the devastating impact of a war that has now lasted nearly two years, her struggle is daily and relentless.

Mesk was born into this conflict—it's the only reality she has ever known. Our hope is to eventually help Maya and Mesk relocate from Gaza and begin a new chapter in a safer, more stable environment.
