Urgent: Help trans woman with living expenses

$3,266 raised of $6.5K

Update as of July 27, 2026:
In March, we successfully raised $3k for Gemma, which was life-saving! We are endlessly grateful to every person who donated and shared.
Some amazing news: Gemma found a job! Although part-time, it's helping her gain footing as she continues to look for work with more hours in her chosen field.
In the meantime, she has run out of resources and is in need of community help.
This time, we are trying to raise $3.5k for the following expenses:
- Rent and utilities for 2 months
- 2 months of public transit passes
- $100 for medication
- Food!
- A tiny bit of padding for emergencies

We appreciate all donations, no matter how small, and ask that you share if you cannot donate. We can't adequately express our gratitude!

From March 2026:
My friend Gemma is in urgent need of our help. She has been facing employment struggles for 5 months and she's running out of time.
Gemma is one of the hardest workers I know. She has a great resume and glowing recommendations. She has been looking for work tirelessly: applying for all jobs in the social work field, and doing job shadows for jobs that don't end up hiring her. She's had so many leads that have ended up nowhere.
The job market has been awful, as many of us know; many of us also know that trans women face really serious job discrimination.
Gemma is an incredibly kind, selfless person, who's faced and survived a lot of hardship in her life. She gives so much of herself to her recovery, and I've never met anyone who shows up for her community the way Gemma does. Her natural ability to provide care for those around her inspires the work that she does (and constantly inspires me too).
Gemma hates asking for money, and this is a last resort for her.
I want to cover her living expenses for the next 2 months while she continues to job hunt.
Breakdown of expenses:
Monthly rent: $700
Monthly utilitiest $165-170
Additional funds will cover food, public transportation, medication etc. for the two months. (Her SNAP is about to expire, due to new government work requirements).
Truly any amount helps, and sharing this page can go a long way. I'm so grateful that you took the time to read this, and I really hope we can show up for Gemma!
