A nossa casa, construída em 1904, ficou gravemente destruída na madrugada de 28 de janeiro, quando a Tempestade Kristin atingiu a região. 

O meu pai herdou esta casa quando os meus avós faleceram. Ao longo dos anos, os recursos financeiros nunca foram suficientes para uma reabilitação completa. Fomos intervindo pouco a pouco, conforme era possível, sempre sem qualquer tipo de seguro. Conseguimos recuperar as fachadas, substituir dois telhados, colocar janelas novas e renovar totalmente metade da casa. Ainda assim, o desgaste do interior foi-se agravando com o tempo, comprometendo cada vez mais condições da casa.

Este é um projeto de recuperação com 22 anos, feito com muito esforço e respeito pela sua história. Neste momento, com 24 anos, não tenho capacidade financeira para enfrentar isto sozinha, e os meus pais, que sempre carregaram este sonho, estão mais velhos e já não têm a força de outrora. 

Numa única noite, demos um enorme passo atrás no nosso projeto de vida. Com a tempestade, agravaram-se todas as fragilidades da casa que ainda estavam por recuperar, prejudicando em muito também as partes que já estavam completamente recuperadas. Ficámos sem telhados. A chuva entrou dentro de casa, também na parte recuperada da casa, alguns tetos abriram mais fendas, os pavimentos foram destruídos e há divisões estruturalmente comprometidas e perigosas. No exterior, há árvores caídas, muros destruídos, o terreno está danificado e a garagem ficou inundada. 

Agora, mais do que nunca, precisamos de ajuda para reconstruir. Todo o apoio será usado para recuperar os telhados, tetos, paredes, pavimentos, algerozes, e para reconstruir o que ainda não conseguimos em 22 anos. Não é fácil pedir ajuda, mas não conseguimos fazê-lo sozinhos.

Our home, built in 1904, was severely damaged in the early hours of January 28, when Storm Kristin struck the region.

My father inherited this house when my grandparents passed away. Over the years, financial resources were never sufficient for a full restoration. We made improvements little by little, whenever possible, always without any kind of insurance. We managed to restore the façades, replace two roofs, install new windows, and fully renovate half of the house. Even so, the interior continued to deteriorate over time, increasingly compromising the living conditions.

This has been a 22-year restoration project, carried out with great effort and deep respect for its history. Now, at 24 years old, I don’t have the financial means to face this alone, and my parents—who have always carried this dream—are older and no longer have the strength they once did.

In a single night, we took a huge step backward in our life project. The storm worsened all the vulnerabilities of the house that had yet to be restored, and also caused significant damage to the parts that had already been fully renovated. We lost the roofs. Rain entered the house, including the restored areas; some ceilings developed larger cracks, the floors were destroyed, and there are rooms that are now structurally compromised and dangerous. Outside, there are fallen trees, destroyed walls, damaged land, and the garage was flooded.

Now, more than ever, we need help to rebuild. All support will be used to repair the roofs, ceilings, walls, floors, gutters, and to rebuild what we were unable to complete over the past 22 years. It’s not easy to ask for help, but we cannot do this alone.
