On August 9, 2025, my neighborhood experienced extreme flooding, leaving my home with 11 feet of water. The entire basement was flooded and about 18 inches of the first floor—my main living space.

My poor cats were home alone, but luckily they can jump up and were able to seek dry "ground" on top of dressers.

I lost everything in my basement (washer, dryer, furnace, water heater), including Christmas ornaments which belonged to my mother and my childhood bedroom set, amongst other things.

The first floor, my living room furniture, and mattress/box spring could not be saved as this was not only a flood but sewage backup as well.

Long story short, the entire first floor needed to be gutted and drywall replaced, as well as kitchen and bathroom cabinets.

Thank God for the 2 volunteer groups that came through, one cleaning out the waterlogged items in the basement and most of the "muck," and the 2nd group gutting the 1st floor. And thank God also for family who has helped with the initial pumping out of the water in the basement, tearing up the carpeting, etc., and especially for Chuck and Lori for letting me stay with them until my house is put back together.

Next step is to rebuild which will not be easy financially as the insurance company does not want to pay out even though my home is unlivable and FEMA has not come through yet.

I thank God I was NOT at home, or my car would have been lost as well.
