i received a letter and voicemail today (04/15/26) telling me that my food stamps benefits were given to me as overpayments and i now need to pay back $1,148 by may 8th or there is a possibility that i am facing 1-5 years in prison. if you are interested in seeing the proof of this or anything please don’t be afraid to ask, i know it sounds absolutely absurd. (no, it’s not a scam. i have verified with the DHR that i owe them and i am going to speak in person with them tomorrow 04/16/26)

in order to get monthly payments, i need to attend a court hearing, but i was denied unemployment and i have no proof that i ever contacted the food stamps office when i was randomly laid off from my profession in may of 2025. it’s borderline impossible. i am currently in pursuit of disability and discovering a chronic illness that has plagued me for ages and this has put a damper on it.
