Today should be a celebration — it’s Lola’s 4th birthday. Instead, she’s fighting for her life at the emergency vet.
Our dear friend Rebecca is facing an unimaginable situation. Lola, her sweet, loving girl, is currently at the emergency vet at Guelph Campus Estates with a dangerous blockage caused by something she ingested. She needs surgery immediately to survive.
We are refusing to accept that Lola could be lost simply because of the cost of care. No one should have to make that choice.
Lola is truly one of a kind. She greets every person like an old friend, happily sitting in front of them waiting for the love she knows is coming. She’s full of life, obsessed with sticks and balls, and the ultimate cuddle bug. She brings joy everywhere she goes.
Rebecca and her family have already endured so much heartbreak over the past year and a half — losing her mother, her sister’s dog Luna, and their beloved bird. Now, they are at risk of losing Lola too. It’s just too much.
If you are able, please consider donating — no amount is too small. If you can’t donate, sharing this post could make all the difference.
Let’s come together as a community and give Lola the chance to celebrate many more birthdays. ❤️
UPDATE: Lola's surgery took 4.5 hrs. It was a very lengthy surgery. It took so long because she had a foreign body that was stuck in her stomach that had to be cut out and then in her lower intestine and she had a long stretch of fabric from something she was chewing and swallowed that scrunched up and embedded into her G.I. tract and that ended up obstructing her. They had to remove a quarter of her intestines because they had died, so they cut it and reconnected it. They said it was a very long and very intense surgery for her. They want her to stay another night to monitor her because of how intense the surgery was. Costs are approximately $9000. ANY help would help Rebecca so much. She has a long road to recovery
UPDATE 2: Rebecca was allowed to go visit Lola this morning. I have attached a video of Lola. She's very groggy and in pain. The vets are concerned about her temperature is staying quite low. She has nausea and pain. She's still wanting to burp and vomit. They will be putting a nasal gastric tube to take the pressure off and feed her that way. Campus Estates gave her a grant (they only get one per year) to help which is $1500 but the total is climbing.
Lola is still admitted and is slowly making progress. We love her so much and we are so grateful to our community for supporting us
