In memory of Conner Stent

At the age of 24 Conner was diagnosed with Pilocytic Astrocytoma. He had started having back pain and problems with the dexterity in his hands. After having spinal taps, CT and MRI scans and numerous blood tests in 2017 doctors discovered inflammation on his spinal cord. Treatment using steroids then revealed the cause of the problem…several tumours.

An initial operation to remove one of the tumours and encase another in a metal cage sadly resulted in Conner suffering paralysis from the waist down. Despite all this, he remained positive and was grateful that he still had the use of his arms and, of course, his life.

Conner then went through 6 weeks of radiotherapy in an attempt to reduce the size of the remaining tumour followed by a long period of rehabilitation at the amazing Stoke Mandeville Hospital. During this time he learnt to live life in a wheelchair and eventually received a Batec Mobility Handbike that attached to it. He loved being able to get out and about and became a minor celebrity being seen here there and everywhere. He truly embraced the whole experience even naming his bike “Freedom”.

Sadly the treatment had not been entirely successful and by 2021, at the age of 29, further tests showed that the tumours had grown significantly and it was decided that Conner should start a 70 week course of palliative chemotherapy. The effect of the treatment on his body was too much and he became increasingly weaker day by day. After just 8 weeks treatment has to stop.

Over the next 8 months Conner fought bravely through terrible health struggles, too many and too gruelling to mention, with his family by his side at all times. Both his devoted mother Sandra and sister Chelsea put their lives on hold and ensured someone was there for him all hours of the day and night. On the 4thJune Conner passed away surrounded by them both and his Uncle.

Conner’s mother Sandra chose to not work for those last 8 months so she could spend every moment with her boy and now, whilst dealing with the most unbearable grief, faces not only the the task of planning her own child’s funeral, but having to pay for it too. It would mean so much to her and her family if you could help me by donating what you can, big or small, in the hope that they can truly celebrate the life of Conner Stent….their Son, Brother and Nephew.
