Urgent Help Needed to Save My 80-Year-Old Mum from Homelessness While Recovering from Major Hip Surgery.
My 80-year-old mother and my sister in South Africa are facing the most desperate time of their lives.
My sister, who has been caring for my mum, has been unable to find work. The economy is so bad that she’s been turned away from job after job. I’ve been doing everything I can to keep them going ,sending food, helping with bills , but now the situation has become critical.
They moved at the beginning of September for what was meant to be a fresh start. The money raised so far has kept them in a small rented flatlet . But since moving, things have taken a heartbreaking turn.
My mum broke her hip at the hospital the end of October . She had been waiting in A&E for 9 hours with a sore stomach. on getting up fell over someone’s rucksack laying on the floor, in the waiting area and broke her hip.
She was sent home without a proper diagnosis, only to return that Sunday in unbearable pain, unable to put her leg down. She then waited another 7 hours in A&E before finally being admitted and put on morphine.
Initially, doctors said she’d have to wait 10 days for surgery because they only operated on Wednesdays but after I complained about the fall happening on hospital premises, the surgery was finally brought forward.
She underwent a full hip replacement and was discharged just two days later into her rented accommodation, with only a walker to help her recover.
Struggling to recover in difficult conditions Since then, I’ve been fighting tooth and nail to get her the medical supplies she needs a raised toilet seat, nutritional shakes, proper bedding, and food to regain her strength.
We managed to pull together to get her back on the slow road to recovery .shes still struggling to walk and Is much more frail than she used to be .
At 80 years old, vulnerable, and recovering from major surgery under very stressful circumstances of no place to settle no permanent roof over their heads at times not enough food to eat .She needs rest, care, and proper food not the fear of no where to live .
My sister has now had to become her full-time carer over the last few months . until Mum is strong enough to be left alone.
Why I’m asking for help I need to raise the funds now more than ever to keep a roof over their heads and give my mum the care and recovery she desperately needs.
If you can help in any way through a donation or by sharing this post you’ll be giving my mum a real chance to heal and live with dignity.
No one at 80 should have to spend their final years without a home, especially while recovering from a hip replacement.
From the depths of my heart thank you for your kindness and compassion. It’s not been easy to ask for help but it’s the only choice when all other avenues have been exhausted.
