My name is Debra Lee. I am an artist, mother, senior citizen and disabled. My only family is my daughter who also has health issues. I live on less than $12,000.00 yearly so unexpected expenses can be nearly impossible to cover. However, I usually manage. This time, though, I need help quickly to keep from being evicted from my house.
The water department in my little city has a code that states, if your water is shut off due to non-payment of your bill, you have five days after the shut off to pay your bill in full. If you are unable to do so, your house is condemned and you have five days until you are evicted. Due to an unidentified plumbing problem I still haven't located, I wound up with a massive water bill. The city allowed me to pay half to turn my water back on last month but now I have to pay the remainder plus late fees. The total I currently owe is $1,254.86...more than ten percent of my yearly income. I am selling everything I can but I have never been materialistic so I don't believe anyone will want to purchase my worn, TV tray end tables. I haven't had a car since 2019. I sold all my "good" jewelry throughout the years to get by.
If I am evicted, I have no place to live and no way to afford moving my meager possessions. I am already selling art supplies I am unlikely to use due to health issues. Any item that might get at least a little money is up for grabs. The city gave me another grace period but I need to pay the entire bill by the middle of November. Otherwise the city will shut off my water. I will then have five days to pay the bill to get my water turned on and keep my house from being condemned. Five days after that I will receive an eviction notice.
I really didn't think that I could be homeless in my old age but here we are... Please help me if you are able.
