Hello my name is Summer Wittchow, some of you may have know me previously as Summer Browning. Asking for help isn't something that comes easily to me. But I have come to accept recently that sometimes it is best to swallow your pride and reach out.
I am making this GoFundMe because my husband and I need help to recover our belongings.
Last year my husband got out of the Navy and we decided to leave Virginia and move back to his home state of Wisconsin. Before we left we put all of our belongings into a storage unit and set up a plan for the military to transport our belongings. This included everything from our previous house, as well as a large number of heirlooms from my late grandmother, and even some artwork she did of our family. We have now managed to purchase a home, with the intent to start family. Due to some unforeseen circumstances the military was unable to complete the move. So we were forced to hire a moving company instead. When we originally contracted with them they told us the move would be a little over $3,700 total, so we signed the papers and set everything up. A few days before the scheduled move we were worried that they hadn't properly estimated the amount of storage needed so we contacted them and added some extra boxes and space which brought the new total up to $4,600, which was more than we had saved but we were going to make it work. We put down almost $3,000 for the deposit and waited for the move date. However when they came to pick up our belongings we asked the movers if we should leave some items behind in order to save more money but they said not to, and to keep our current estimate. Citing that if we tried to change it and it ended up being more we would end up paying more money again. So we told them to continue. After they finished loading everything they said it was time to pay the deposit and the new total was now $8,326.86. This was way more than we can possibly afford to pay, and as I was calling the company to try and ask about the new price they drove off with the truck. They have now put all of our belongings into storage and we have a month to pay off the remaining $5,300 or they will start to charge us $1,000 dollars a month to store it, and if we take too long they will consider it abandoned. I am currently in school full time and my husband is working second shift to support us. There is no way that we can afford this total especially considering that we have already given them all of our savings.
