Hello! We are Raven (they/them) and Lumen (she/her), and we live together with our roommates Mar (she/her) and Lydia (she/her) in Florida.

Because of the increasingly hostile environment for transgender people, we are trying to flee Florida to relocate to a safer state as soon as possible!

None of us ever imagined leaving our home; in fact Lumen and I were both born and raised here in Florida. Unfortunately, Florida has become a rapidly, increasingly unsafe place for trans people to live, and we are forced to uproot our lives completely and start over elsewhere.

The political landscape in the U.S. has been changing and worsening so quickly that many people aren’t aware of how terrifying and dangerous it is for a trans person simply to exist. Every day brings fresh news of some additional horror proposed by a legislator - something else that will further grind trans people into the ground. We are terrified for our safety.

All we want is to be able to sleep at night without being haunted by the fear that tomorrow we will be targeted and threatened in even more ways. The fear is all-encompassing and ever present.

We don’t want to have to ask this. We don’t want to leave our homes, our careers, our communities, our lives. But we can’t live in fear anymore.

We plan on living in Illinois, which is one of the safest states in the U.S. for trans people. The sooner we can leave, the better, but we are aiming to be out of Florida no later than August.
