Important note on privacy:
This fundraiser does not include photos to protect the safety and privacy of my family, as we are currently trying to leave an abusive household. Due to ongoing domestic abuse and sensitive immigration circumstances, we have chosen to keep our identities protected. We hope our story helps convey the urgency of our situation.
Hi, my name is Yesenia, and I am organizing this fundraiser on behalf of my mother and siblings.
I am doing this for my mother because my father closely monitors and controls her actions. Due to his obsessive behavior and ongoing abuse, her ability to seek help, communicate freely, or access resources is extremely limited. I am stepping in to advocate for her and my siblings so we can safely seek support and work toward leaving this situation.
Our household has been deeply affected by severe alcoholism and abuse. My father struggles with alcohol addiction and has become emotionally, physically, and financially abusive toward our family. While he once worked, he no longer contributes. Instead, he has used my mother’s hard-earned savings to fund his alcoholism and has stolen money from our family, leaving us financially depleted and trapped. This ongoing financial abuse has placed an unbearable burden on my mother and pushed our family to a breaking point.
My mother is a single parent raising four children and is the sole provider for our household. She pays for rent, utilities, food, gas, medical expenses, and all other necessities entirely on her own. Recently, she was involved in a car accident that injured her back. She is a farmworker, and because her job is physically demanding, this injury has significantly limited her ability to work. With it currently being the off-season, her income is already unstable, and her injury has made things even more difficult.
In addition to this, I recently lost my source of income after being unfairly removed from the organization I was working with. The experience was emotionally draining, and the sudden loss of income has greatly increased the financial burden on my mother. We were already struggling, and losing my contribution has made our situation critical.
Despite her strength and resilience, my mother has reached her limit — physically, emotionally, and mentally.
We have contacted multiple agencies and nonprofit organizations, but none have been able to provide immediate assistance. Due to my mother’s immigration status, the help available to her is extremely limited, even though she is a victim of domestic abuse. My father continues to cause problems for her both at home and at work, and we live in constant fear.
We are urgently asking for $15,000 to help our family leave this unsafe environment and begin rebuilding our lives.
These funds will be used to:
Secure safe housing (deposit and move-in costs)
Cover the first few months of rent
Pay for basic living expenses such as food, utilities, gas, and transportation
Help with medical expenses related to my mother’s injury
Give our family time to stabilize and plan our next steps without fear
This amount represents what we need to move to safety and avoid being forced to remain in an abusive situation due to lack of resources.
Any donation, no matter the size, would mean more than we can express. If you are unable to donate, sharing our story would still help us reach people who can.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for helping my family move toward safety, healing, and hope.
With gratitude,
Yesenia Gonzalez
