Urgent Help Needed: Nearly Homeless

ONE Week From Homeless - Can you Offer a Little Help?

Between 2018 and 2022, I took care of my aging mother while working full-time. I went to great lengths to ensure that COVID did not impact her. Unfortunately, due to heart conditions, she lost he life to COVID after being exposed to it at the ER (Death Certificate Attached). We lived together in Henderson, just outside of Las Vegas, NV. I caught COVID as well as a result in January 2022, fortunately, I overcame. mom, however, was not so lucky as she passed away two months later.

My name is Alejandro, and I reside in Las Vegas, NV. While I had worked every day since I was 13, I lost my job in 2018 due to cuts and took a lower-paying positions. At 40+, finding reasonable pay is less than easy, as many of you know, ageism is real. I did manage to find a new job immediately, but at a significant pay cut. Unfortunately, shortly after my mother's passing, our home experienced much damage, and without my mother's social security income, I simply did not have the resources to make the necessary repairs, and the house was condemned. I tried to sell the property, but due to past-due taxes, I was simply railroaded by various parties. I was condemned, and I was forcibly removed after her death.

I ended up filing for bankruptcy in 2023 to get a fresh start. I got a decent position at a major accounting firm in 2024, albeit the position was only for six months. It seemed as if things were finally turning around, and I was offered a position at a major retailer mid 2024, or so I thought it was a win. They are located throughout the United States, but specifically in California, and I was able to work remotely initially. After going through the interviews, background check, and onboarding, I took the position, and on day 1 was told that the position was "placed on hold," but that I could maintain the next two weeks while they explored alternatives.

I tried to return to the old position, but as it was near the end of the six-week term, there was no job to return to. After two weeks at the new position, I was told that the position was eliminated, and there was no alternative. I asked about the two weeks' compensation for the two weeks I was asked to remain on staff, and the one month as per the contract, due to me, as per the no-fault separation. I was told that due to financial conditions, they opted not to compensate me.

I reached out to many legal resources, and legal aid, and was told that I would have to spend at least $10k to $20k to file a case, and even then would have a limited chance. I was informed that my best bet was to file an unpaid wage claim, as would be due. That was nearly a year ago (See attached), and I told "Thank you for your patience" as they worked through their backlog.

I continued to try to look for work, but now being almost 50, position after position was told "We went the other way," and "We decided to go with our second choice." Despite having 25+ years in finance and technology, I have also applied for fast food, day laborer, food delivery, and nothing. Either told "overqualified," or that they have a long waitlist.

I was evicted in November 2024 (See attached), but I was able to sell everything I had left of value. I would have sold my car, but at this point, it was already repossessed. Fortunately, after selling anything and everything of value, I was able to raise enough to prevent the eviction.

I continued to look for work, but no luck. After Avenue was a dead-in, ghosting, endless rounds of interviews, only to be ghosted with fake jobs, or asked to do free work, to be told, "We went the other way." At the same time, I applied for various state and county programs. Have been fortunate to have received utility assistance, but that is up this month. Have received food stamps, so that has been helpful. I have also been on the "eviction" prevention assistance list since October 2024, sadly enough, in a city where evictions take on average 2-3 weeks.

My final eviction hearing is next week, June 18, 2025, in Clark County, Las Vegas, Nevada. The local eviction assistance knows this and continues to drag their feet. They do tell me that if (as if there is an 'if') I am evicted, and do manage to find a place to live, they will assist in the fact. No mention of the fact that once evicted, getting a new place will be impossible.

I have no money, as in $0.00, my last unemployment payment was over a month ago, and short of my $20.00 flip phone, and many-year-old notebook which I rely on to apply for work, I have no more things of value. I have no family, my mother was the last of my family members, and everyone else has died, father, grandparents, brother, and best friend, all died recently. I have nowhere to go.

Throughout my entire life, I have worked hard, saved, and done the right thing, but due to one thing and another, I am now facing homelessness yet again, for the second time in two years. I work hard every day to try to find work, despite 25+ years of experience in technology and finance, I continue to find that ageism is very well. I just need a break, I do not want to be homeless and have no money, and nowhere to go, and yes, I have tried all local options and have exhausted anything and everything. I do not want to take this route, as not one to ask for help, but I have no more options.

Any more you offer will be used to help pay my past due rent, and avoid being forcibly evicted next week. My phone and electricity are now due, with no money to make those payments. You will also help me cover the next 1 month of rent, hopefully enough time to get through this rough patch.

If you can donate here or send it directly, I would appreciate it. I have 8 days before I am homeless, please give me a chance. I know my job is out there, but getting there while homeless and having nowhere to go will prove nearly impossible. I DO NOT drink, I DO NOT smoke, I DO NOT do any substances, I DO NOT gamble, I do my best to live a good life, and just looking to catch a break, please help.
