My name is Nira Elgart, and I am a member of the Jewish community in Melbourne.

I am not someone who is used to asking the community for help. But today, I have no choice.

I am reaching out with an urgent plea to help my nephew, Zoltan Esenfeld, who is facing a serious, life-threatening medical emergency.

Zoltan is only 52 years old, originally from Kyiv, and relocated to Tanzania several years ago for work.

Like many of us, he made the difficult decision to move abroad in the hope of building a better future for his family.

Since moving, he has been the sole provider for his entire family — supporting his wife, three young children and his elderly mother, who sadly became incapacitated after an unsuccessful back surgery.

Last year, Zoltan suffered an injury to his lower leg. What began as a small wound has now developed into a severe ulcer and a large open infection.

Despite multiple local treatments, the condition has continued to worsen.

Today, he is in extreme pain, and doctors are warning that the infection is showing signs of sepsis.

Without urgent surgery, the infection could quickly lead to gangrene, amputation of his leg, or even become life-threatening.

Unfortunately, the medical care he urgently needs is not available in Tanzania.

He must be transported to a hospital in neighbouring Kenya, where proper surgery and rehabilitation can be performed.

The estimated cost for transport, surgery, hospital care and rehabilitation is approximately $14500 AUD.

Since Zoltan has been unable to work for several months, his family is now facing an extremely difficult financial situation while caring for three small children and a disabled parent, and is not in a position to pay for this treatment.

Time is critical. Every day the infection spreads, the risk of permanent damage increases.

We are urgently trying to raise the funds needed so Zoltan can receive the life-saving treatment he needs as soon as possible.

Any contribution — no matter how small — will help give him a chance to heal, keep his leg, and return to supporting the family who depend entirely on him.
