Help Greyson Get the Medical Care He Needs to Save His Vision

Hi, my name is Cassandra, and I’m organizing this fundraiser on behalf of one of my dear friends and her incredible son, Greyson.

What began as a simple, routine eye exam at school has unexpectedly turned into a fight to protect Greyson’s vision—and his future.

At first, the school believed he might have astigmatism. Greyson, a bright and cheerful little boy, had never once complained about his eyes. He didn’t even know anything was wrong. But a follow-up at a regular eye doctor revealed something far more serious: a spot on his right eye.

From there, the journey escalated quickly.

Greyson was referred to a retina specialist in Summit, NJ, where he endured multiple rounds of eye exams, dilations, high-resolution imaging, and even an ultrasound. Despite their efforts, the doctors couldn’t confirm what the spot was and referred him to Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia—the only medical center in our region with the specialized expertise needed to evaluate and manage his case.

At Wills Eye Hospital, under the care of Dr. Carol Shields, one of the country’s top ocular oncologists, Greyson underwent more testing. Finally, the diagnosis came: a benign tumor on his right eye.

Although the tumor won’t be removed at this time and his vision is—thankfully—still intact, the risk is far from over. Greyson now faces further intensive procedures, including going under anesthesia and undergoing dye-based imaging to detect potential blockages or changes in the tumor.

Here’s the critical issue:

The care Greyson needs at Wills Eye Hospital is not covered by his state medical insurance. And the hospital stated they need the money up front to perform the procedures necessary to determine the risk to his vision.

Wills Eye Hospital also does not offer charity care to patients from out of state. This means that his family must pay out of pocket for every single visit, test, and procedure at full, out-of-pocket price.

Greyson's next appointment is May 21st, so the funding needed is at critical urgency!

Why This Matters

We only get one set of eyes. And when the only thing standing between a parent and saving their child's vision is funding, this is when a community must come together.

Greyson is an amazingly bright, kind-hearted little boy with a future full of possibilities. Vision impairment could drastically alter the course of his life. These medical appointments and imaging procedures are not optional—they are the only way to prevent potential vision loss and ensure he can live the life he deserves.
