Urgent Help Needed for Tofu's Medical Care

Hello all! My name is Chelsea V. and I’m writing this from the exam room while I wait for my son’s cat’s diagnosis.

My young son has grown up with his cat Tofu since they were both little. We adopted Tofu from the Elk Grove Animal Shelter when he was just a kitten at the end of 2021. Since then my son and Tofu have become inseparable; they do everything together, and my son considers him like a brother.

Everything has been wonderful until today. Tofu was sneezing a bit last week but nothing out of the ordinary, but this morning his health took a sharp nose dive. I woke up this morning and found him sleeping in the hallway by himself, and was very slow to respond. I called him towards me and immediately I became extremely alarmed. He was so lethargic that he stumbled when he tried walking towards me. I immediately called and rushed him to the pet hospital where I now await his status.

We’ve already ran initial exams, bloodwork, FIV test and now they are doing X-rays;

we still have yet to get an answer. They think it may be a kidney issue, Lily/plant poisoning, or possibly an intestinal obstruction from his labs so far.

We are already $1200 dollars deep into his care, and I just received the bill for the hospitalization that’s needed which is going to cost $4500 on top of what I’ve already paid. The financial assistance isn’t going to cover the cost and I’m trying my best to save my son’s best friend; I’m trying this as my last resort.

I’m a single mom who works at a vegan establishment downtown and am finishing my last semester at Sac State for a double Bachelors in English and Asian Studies. I’m doing my best to create a life that is full of happiness for my son. I don’t want him to lose his best friend so soon.
