Hi, my name is Viola Hackett I live in the city of Sheffield in the UK and I am raising funds for the Hackett family in Westmoreland after the devastation caused by hurricane Melissa. I am related to the Hackett family through marriage and I am raising funds to hep my sister in laws.

The district of Petersfield and Mango Hall in Westmoreland Jamaica is home to my in laws.

My sister in law had a small restaurant in Petersfield and she was the breadwinner for the family. This restaurant helped to look after their elderly father and mother. Hurricane Melissa has reduced the restaurant to rubble. She has lost everything her business and her home and the means to support her family. One of their homes has been turned upside down and completely destroyed. My other sisters have had severe damage to their homes through flooding and roofs being blown off and damage to furniture, clothes and food. My father in law is in Savannah la Mar hospital and was there during the storm, this hospital was also severely damaged by the hurricane. His house in Mango Hall has been destroyed and our concern is when he is discharged from hospital he will be homeless.

This is a very devastating and traumatic time for the family. They are feeling anxious, depressed, shocked and desperate for help.

Your donations will make a real impact in their lives and go a long way to helping this family get back a home and livelihood.

Having seen the videos and photographs sent to me from my sisters I can see that they will need many materials to start rebuilding their homes again and this is an urgent appeal for help.

The funds raised will go towards building materials for the following:

1. Rebuilding the homes that were completely destroyed and flattened

2. Repairing the roofs that were blown off

3. Hiring a carpenter to repair and build the homes

4. Buy mattresses and beds

The houses may only start with one room but this is better than nothing at all so that is where we will start.
