Urgent Help Needed for Tea's Family Power Bills

Hi everyone, I'm Tea, an autistic disabled lesbian in a shitty situation.

Since we moved into our house in 2019, something has always been wrong with the power, but recently it has only gotten worse as utility companies get greedier.

Our power bill has been almost in the thousands every month now. Even on an equal pay plan, it was $700 a month, compared to our neighbour's who were usually in the 200s, and maybe 400s in the summer heat.

My dad lost his job in March and has fallen behind on these bills since.

Our power got shut off with little notice on Thursday morning, with them demanding we pay the 6k owed. Then over the phone they added an extra two thousand dollars and said they won't discuss it or try to work out any plans until it is paid.

Not only that, but my father and grandmother - who the bill is under - refuse to pay now too, leaving the rest of my family to suffer. For some reason my father thinks that he can just not pay it and we can get solar energy instead, despite the rest of my family begging him to try.

The utility company won't accept any payment plans or other options, and won't discuss why they've added tons of fees either until the bill has been paid in full.

I've decided to take over from my dad and try to pay myself since he is adamantly refusing to do so at his family's expense, but I need help. As said before, I'm disabled, and I don't work outside of commissions. I'm looking to try and pay this off as much as I can and any extra money will go into trying to find out what is sapping our electricity and any other necessities my family needs as we are paycheck to paycheck.

I'll be opening emergency commissions as well and try to do what I can via ipad until I can get power back, and will update with info when it is available.

I would not be asking for help if it wasn't so serious. It is a heatwave this week, we are running out of food fast, my youngest sibling has severe asthma, and we have 6 animals - one being my rabbit who could die of heatstroke quickly if it gets bad enough.
