Hello, my name is Salt, as of October 3, 2025, me and my Partner are effectively homeless.

Around three months ago me and my partner Ace moved from Chicago to Kalamazoo Michigan where we lived with my partner's mother. We moved in under the understanding that my partner Ace would help cook and clean, while I provideded transportation for her sons to and from school. We covered costs of food using a combination of our own food stamps and money i made off commission work. The plan was for us to find work, but after over 300 ignored job applications we only now have been able to pick up work.

During that time we have dealing with regular and constant verbal abuse, doors being slammed, screaming matches. She has refused to eat the food we make and when asked what else we could make, she refuses to answer. Last week was a breaking point when at 4am she started screaming from the kitchen upstairs and locked us in the basement when we attempted to get away. We had failed to clean the kitchen immediately after cooking that night, a task I was saving for the morning on my then day off.

Yesterday on the 2nd, she blocked us from the wifi and cut Ace's phone service. these last three months me and my partner have been dealing with abuse from my partner's mom (single parent). It's pretty verbal with a lot of downplaying. And emotional and financial with how much it's all take and no give. Last week had been the worst of it, given it was at 4am and she locked us in the basement when we attempted to get away to descalate. Today she blocked us from the wifi and cut Ace's phone service. Her home is out in the woods. So this phone became my only means of communication. My family isn't in a position to help.

We packed up as much as my car could carry, and left. I'm out of money, and out of places to turn.

We're effectively on our own in Michigan right now looking for a place to stay.
