If you’ve lived in the Mt. Hood Village area for any length of time, chances are you know my mom, Rima, and my stepdad, Brian. For over 20 years, they’ve been part of the heartbeat of this community, always ready to help a neighbor, share a smile, or lend a hand.

Mom grew up in Portland and followed her passion for health and wellness by creating Rima’s Dragon Toast, a natural wheat- and gluten-free food product that she proudly provided to local natural food stores throughout the area. She cared deeply about nourishing others and offering wholesome, healthy options to her community.

Recently, our world was turned upside down. Mom went in for what was supposed to be a routine mammogram, but instead was rushed in for an emergency biopsy. That same day she was told she has breast cancer. At this moment, we know it’s at least stage three, but we will learn more about the exact stage this Wednesday. This diagnosis was completely unexpected, and the road ahead will involve many doctor visits, treatments, and travel to appointments.

Brian, my stepdad, has been a part of the Mt. Hood community for 30 years, working for local construction companies and at Timberline Lodge. Mom has been the friendly “garden lady” at the local hardware store in Welches, always happy to help customers choose plants and brighten their day. They have both worked hard their entire lives, but after Brian’s knee surgery three years ago, they’ve been playing catch-up with bills ever since.

Now, with this new challenge, they’re very worried about keeping up with their mortgage, paying household bills, putting food on the table, and covering the extra costs of medical care and travel to appointments.

This fundraiser will help cover:

Mortgage payments and utilities

Groceries and daily living expenses

Transportation to and from treatments

Out-of-pocket medical costs

They’ve given so much to this community for decades, now it’s our turn to rally around them. Any amount, big or small, will help ease their burden so they can focus on what matters most: Mom’s fight against cancer and Brian’s ability to be there by her side.
